The diet is low in magnesium and phosphorus (components of struvite crystals) to help dissolve and reduce the recurrence of struvite crystals and uroliths. A urine pH of 6.0 to 6.3 dissolves existing struvite crystals and minimizes the risk of new struvite crystals precipitating. The increased sodium level causes the cat to drink more water, which promotes reduced urinary mineral concentrations and increased urination frequency. EPA and DHA are both omega-3 fatty acids that support healthy skin, coat, and joints.

Specific Struvite Dissolution is indicated for a temporary diet for the dissolution of struvite uroliths. Not recommended for cats with urolithiasis due to calcium oxalate, ammonium urate or cystine, simultaneous administration of urinary acidifiers, metabolic or renal acidosis, heart failure, hypertension and edema and pregnant or lactating kittens and cats.
