Highly digestible ingredients compensate for decreased intestinal enzyme activity and ensure optimal nutrient absorption, making this diet ideal for patients with gastrointestinal disorders such as acute and chronic diarrhea, vomiting, and/or flatulence. The high content of minerals and fat-soluble vitamins compensates for compromised intestinal absorption. The increased level of electrolytes compensates for the additional losses that occur in diarrhea and vomiting. It contains yeast β-1,3/1,6-glucans that can bind to receptors on leukocytes and alert the immune system, supporting the immune response. This diet contains egg powder rich in immunoglobulins. Immunoglobulins can bind to specific bacteria, viruses, and protozoa in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing pathogen binding to the intestinal wall, villous damage, and associated diarrhea. Additionally, the diet contains mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) that can bind to pathogenic bacteria, preventing them from attaching to the intestinal wall. MOS also support local immunity in the gut. Plantago psyllium seed husks contain soluble, gel-forming fibers that absorb several times their weight in liquid and are known for their benefits in regulating gastrointestinal tract activity and protecting the mucosa. Yucca extract reduces the production of foul-smelling gases and stool odor.
